We are thrilled to announce the first annual Western PA Book Read: an exciting initiative in partnership with The Pittsburgh Foundation to bring community members together across Allegheny County to read, discuss, and connect over one of the amazing books featured in our Ten Evenings series.

Our first book will be Antonia Hylton’s Madness: Race and Insanity in a Jim Crow Asylum.

To participate, readers can register online for free! Sign up for your preferred Discussion Date and Location at one of our ten different locations, led in collaborating with our partner organizations.

Next, pick up your free copy of the book at one of our sponsored pick-up locations and dive in! Participants are encouraged to read the book during the reading period, October 2024 to January 2025.

From January 20, 2025, to February 3, 2025, participants will join their chosen group discussion. Each discussion session will be led by a Discussion Leader. Snacks will be provided. This will be a time where community members from across the county can meet, socialize, and have a lively conversation about the book.

Then, make sure you have your tickets to see Antonia Hylton speak on February 10 at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland!

This page — and our Instagram — will be updated regularly, so keep your eyes peeled for more!
