In poems of compassion and social justice, Mihaela Moscaliuc’s Cemetery Ink probes borders and memory to work through understandings of belonging—from places (including her native Romania) and histories to ways of knowing, loving, and grieving. She is also the author of the poetry collections Immigrant Model and Father Dirt and the translator of Liliana Ursu’s Clay and Star and Carmelia Leonte’s The Hiss of the Viper. Her awards include two Glenna Luschei Awards, residencies at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, MacDowell, and Le Chateau de Lavigny, and a Fulbright fellowship to Romania. She is associate professor of English at Monmouth University.
Judith Vollmer’s sixth collection of poetry, The Sound Boat, explores human voices and geographies, stories and mysteries, and natural phenomena inside urban spaces. Vollmer’s home city, Pittsburgh, and its sister-locations within Italy and Poland, undergird her attention to orientation and perception at work in her poems’ acutely visual studies. Vollmer’s award-winning collections, including The Apollonia Poems, The Water Books, and Reactor, have received notable recognition, including the Brittingham Prize, Cleveland State Poetry Prize, and the Center for Book Arts Prize. She lives in the Nine Mile Run Watershed area of Pittsburgh.
