Happy International Poetry Month! In honor of the Happy International Poetry Month! In honor of the writers who make language feel electric, we’re sharing a selection of poetry that’s been moving us lately. What kind of poetry are you drawn to right now?

Nina - "Dime-Store Alchemy" by Charles Simic
Charles Simic and Joseph Cornell are in so many ways the dream duo: both used unassuming tools to build windows into stranger, wilder worlds. Dime-Store Alchemy is as much about obsession and the human hunger to create as it is about its brilliant, lonely subject. As Simic writes, "making art in America is about saving one's soul." May we all at least try.

Sony - "Last Night I Dreamt I Was A DJ" by Frank Báez
Last Night I Dreamt I Was A DJ is one of my favorite collections of poetry ever. The reader gets two for the price of one, two languages and two amazing poets in one book. Dominican poet, Frank Baez is at his best in this collection, funny and poignant, and poet and translator P. Scott Cunningham captures the poems perfectly in English. However, the third entity that cannot be overlooked in this collection is Jai-alai Books. Their design is both simple and creative.

Micaela - “Kitchen Hymns” by Pádraig Ó Tuama
I saw Pádraig Ó Tuama read with Philip Metres at PA&L before I joined the team. “Kitchen Hymns” is a gorgeous title for a collection, and the poems themselves are filled with refrains that have stayed with me.

Jordan - "I Do Everything I'm Told" by Megan Fernandes
I haven't found myself choosing to read poetry in years. Passing the international poetry section at the @carnegielibrary in Oakland, "I Do Everything I'm Told" caught my eye, and I fell head first into Fernandes's prose. These are poems that notice everything: the body, the workplace, the expectations we inherit and rewrite. They ask you to look again at what you thought you understood.

Charles - "Selected Poems" by Guillaume Apollinaire
