Finding the Carnegie Music Hall

From the parking lot

Once in the parking lot, make sure you are at the top level where you can see the Museum building. Next to the outdoor Sculpture Garden, there is a large glass entryway to the Museum of Art with power assist doors. Pass the security desk and take the elevator or stairs to the first floor of the Museum. Follow the path to your left down the length of the building. You will pass the Museum stores, the Halls of Sculpture and Architecture, and another security desk before arriving at the Music Hall Foyer. This entire path is physically accessible.

Drop-offs:

If you are being dropped off at the Music Hall, use the Carriage Drive entrance on Forbes Avenue. On the right-hand side of Forbes, just past the large Music Hall doors and where the Natural History Museum’s entrance is located, there is a half-circle, one-way driveway that can be used for drop-offs. Once inside the lobby, head to your right into the Music Hall Foyer. This drop-off location is physically accessible.

Entering the Hall:

There are steps with a railing leading up to the Lecture Hall doors. To the right-hand side of these steps is a powered lift entrance. Security guards will be outside to assist you with the lift.

If you would prefer to not use a lift, an alternative entrance is available through the Portal Entry in the parking lot. This internal path to the hall can be tricky, so please contact us in advance of your visit if this is your preference and we can arrange for someone to meet you at the Portal Entry and guide you through the building

Finding the Carnegie Library South Wing Reading Room For New & Noted

From the parking lot:

Once in the parking lot, make sure you are at the very top level of the garage. When facing the elevators, there is a pathway to the left that takes you around the outside of the building. This pathway slopes slightly upwards and will take past the front doors of the Carnegie Library Lecture Hall. Keep following the sidewalk that allows you to follow alongside the Carnegie Library on your right. The sidewalk will eventually cut to the right again (by a large black box for Carnegie Library book returns) and this will bring you to the main entrance of the Carnegie Library, on your right, accessible by steps or ramp.

Drop-offs:

If you are being dropped off at the Carnegie Library, ask your driver to drop you off on Schenley Park Extension, which connects Schenley Drive and Forbes Avenue. Turning off of Schenley Drive will allow you to be dropped off on the Carnegie Library-side of the sidewalk. You can see the library main entrance from the Schenley Drive and Schenley Drive Extension intersection, and you can reach the entrance via (accessible) sidewalks.

Entering the Carnegie Library to reach the South Wing Reading Room:

Walk through the two sets of outer doors of the library’s main entrance. Once you’re inside the building, take the stairs to your immediate right up (white stairs with a gold railing) to the second floor. Once you reach the second floor, make another immediate right and walk straight ahead. The South Wing Reading Room will be directly in front of you.

Accessibility entrance: The accessibility entrance for the Carnegie Library is down a slopping sidewalk near the main entrance stairs. The sidewalks takes you down to an elevator, which will take you up to the entrance foyer on the first floor (near security). Once you’re in the entrance foyer, heads towards the Library Shop & Crazy Mocha Café. There is an elevator past the café counter that will take you to the second floor. Exit the elevator on the second floor and proceed straight ahead. Go straight until you can’t go straight anymore, then make a left. This will take you straight into the South Wing Reading Room.
