“I am telling you this so you'll not feel so lonel “I am telling you this so you'll
not feel so lonely,
though I understand if you do.”
—Judith Vollmer, "The Pavese Stone"

Last night at our New & Noted event with Judith Vollmer, the local poet read from "The Pavese Stone" to a room full of listeners gathered for the quiet magic that poetry makes possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us and simply sat together in the hush that good poems create.

Literature has a way of drawing strangers into the same small circle of feeling. For a little while, in that room, the distances between us seemed to soften. Loneliness stepped aside. Words did their patient work, and we kept each other company.
