“[Egan is] a boldly intellectual writer who is not afraid to apply her equally powerful intuitive skills to her ambitious projects.”
ELLE
Jennifer Egan is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of A Visit From the Goon Squad. Her new book Manhattan Beach is a deeply researched historic novel set before and during World War II, a time of sweeping transformation and opportunity.
Describing the experience of writing her new novel, Jennifer Egan says, “Exhilarating though it was to immerse myself in an underworld of gangsters and sailors, the real imaginative leap in Manhattan Beach was into a time when the rules governing female behavior were still so rigid. The underground nature of female strength and sexuality allowed for a heroine-driven adventure story that would be hard to cast in contemporary America.”
Jennifer Egan is the author of The Invisible Circus, which was released as a feature film by Fine Line in 2001, Emerald City and Other Stories, Look at Me, which was nominated for the National Book Award in 2001, and the bestseller The Keep. Her national bestselling book, A Visit From the Goon Squad, won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, and the LA Times Book Prize. Also a journalist, she writes frequently in the New York Times Magazine.
“Egan possesses a satirist’s eye and a romance novelist’s heart.”
