Join us for a conversation between critically acclaimed Pittsburgh YA (Young Adult) and Middle Grade Authors Siobhan Vivian, Jonathan Auxier, and Nick Courage! They all have new books to celebrate and will discuss writing for children, what inspires them, and their latest projects. A Q&A with the audience and book signing to follow.
Siobhan Vivian, author of The Last Boy and Girl in the World
From the critically acclaimed author of The List comes a stunning new novel about a girl who must say goodbye to everything she knows after a storm wreaks havoc on her hometown.
“A transcendent love story, as profoundly moving as it is fun. This is Siobhan Vivian’s finest hour.” – Stephen Chbosky, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Siobhan Vivian is the author of the young adult novel The List, as well as Not That Kind of Girl, Same Difference, and A Little Friendly Advice. She co-wrote the Burn for Burn trilogy with Jenny Han. She currently teaches creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh.
Jonathan Auxier, author of Sophie Quire and the Last Storyguard
From the award-winning author of Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes comes the much-anticipated new adventure that introduces readers to a twelve-year-old bookmender named Sophie Quire. Sophie knows little beyond the four walls of her father’s bookshop, where she repairs old books and dreams of escaping the confines of her dull life. But when a strange boy and his talking cat/horse companion show up with a rare and mysterious book, she finds herself pulled into an adventure beyond anything she has ever read.
“This novel should be in the hands of every human young enough at heart to be enchanted by the written word.” – Kirkus
Jonathan Auxier is the bestselling author of The Night Gardener and Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes, which the Wall Street Journal called “as delightful a magical story as readers . . . will hope to find.” He teaches children’s literature and lives in Pittsburgh with his family.
Nick Courage, author of The Loudness
In this stunning, fast-paced, and punk rock first middle grade novel by author Nick Courage, young readers will be propelled into another world where superheroes emerge from the unlikeliest people…
“Part dystopian, part coming-of-age (friends bond, romance blossoms over the sharing of a single bottle of ancient soda), The Loudness is perfect for Hunger Games and Divergent fans.” – VOYA (“Top Shelf Fiction for Middle School Readers – 2015”)
Nick Courage is a New Orleans-born writer and aspiring skateboarder. He’s also a co-founder of Littsburgh: Celebrating Literary Pittsburgh. His work has recently appeared in The Paris Review Daily, Story, and Full Stop. The Loudness is his first novel.
